In anticipation of the event, we caught up with the Eat & Drink Festival and pooled our years of cheffing experience to share 11 tips from professional chefs that we think everyone should know:

.Save the stems of herbs like parsley and coriander and add them to soups, stews, or stocks while cooking for extra flavour.

.Always truss poultry before you roast it. This results in more even cooking and more tender breast meat.

.Clarified butter adds the same delicious flavour as regular butter - but it’s better for most cooking as it doesn’t burn.

.Before whisking eggs - pierce the yolks with a fork, it’s much easier.

.Wet your fingers before trying to remove egg shell from an egg – you’ll be able to grip the pieces instead of them slipping away.

.Unscented dental floss can be used to cut soft foods such as cheese and can be easier to use than a knife – especially when trying to slice thinly.

.You can perfectly dice avocado for guacamole by using a potato masher – no more trying to mash with a fork!

.Use a coffee grinder for whole spices to make your own flavourful blends.

.Pop a couple of marshmallows in your brown sugar - the marshmallows draw in moisture, keeping the sugar from clumping.

.Remove the smell of garlic from your hands by rubbing them on stainless steel.

.Remove minor rust blemishes from a knife by rubbing it with a sliced raw potato.
